Samyukta is at her best when she brings her extensive knowledge of vocal techniques to teach a traditional art form like Carnatic music. When she sees me grapple with a difficult musical phrase , the answer rarely is ‘ just practice more, and you’ll will get it, it’s always breaking down the problem, and coming with a technique that could address that specific challenge. And of course, Samyukta’s vast repertoire means that you are learning compositions that you would not easily find elsewhere.

Samyukta helped me rekindle my love for Carnatic music and discover Hindustani music after a 15 year gap. Her incredible technical knowledge comes through in every class of course, but the best part for me is that she fosters a kind and non-judgmental environment in class that makes learning and singing so much fun!

As an adult student I'm deeply appreciative of Samyukta's commitment to transmitting a centuries old tradition with fidelity while bringing to bear the full toolkit of modern methods -- software and recordings and a fluency in the latest science -- to help students grow towards their goals. Beyond pure vocal technique, her lessons offer the music theory and cultural history that give heft to even the earliest efforts, and draw you into a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the art form. As an instructor she is preternaturally attuned to her students, possessing not just an ability to read your mind but an ability to read your body, even through a Zoom screen. This enables her to help you understand what is happening in your voice with great physical precision, and what adjustments to make or skills to work on. She not only learns you, she learns how you learn, and her extraordinary pedagogical breadth enables her to shift or mix methods with ease to engage students in the way they learn best. Studying with her is a strange mixture of gaining awareness and command of a central part of yourself while also realizing that your voice -- which has been with you your whole life -- is actually a mystery.

I have worked with numerous singers through my career as an instructor. I currently teach a vast array of students – from beginning singers to celebrity clients, Broadway singers and recording artists in New York, and I hold a strong reputation internationally with private students from over 50 countries. I have also taught numerous aspiring Voice Teachers through our Voice Teacher Training & Certification Program here at New York Vocal Coaching. That said, I can say with confidence that I’ve taught thousands of students throughout my career and consider Samyukta to be one of the best. She has been consistently producing fantastic work since we began working together in 2014. Samyukta not only completed our Teacher Training with flying colors, but her utmost dedication to her craft elevates her to be both an exceptional voice teacher as well as an extremely accomplished singer. Vocally, Samyukta excels with her beautiful and appealing tone, ever-expanding range, and wonderful musicality. I would also like to emphasize her vocal intelligence. There are many great singers out there. But, there are not nearly as many focused and diligent vocal minds. Samyukta uses her vast knowledge and understanding of the voice to apply it to Classical Indian music, her true passion, alongside contemporary music to excel as teacher and singer. Furthermore, Samyukta epitomizes an ideal vocal professional. She cares about her instrument technically and also health-wise; and has a thirst for mastering the nuances of technique that singers are asked to sing in today’s industry. She is very talented, but at the same time exudes humility, gratitude, and courtesy. A true team player and a supportive colleague, she has tremendous respect for her teachers and is eager to listen, to learn, and to stretch herself as a performer and person.

I had the privilege to work and learn with Samyukta when we were colleagues undergoing our training at the New York Vocal Coaching Teacher Training course. It was a rigorous and inspiring program of study and Samyukta was an intellectually positive and stimulating contribution to our cohort. She proved herself to be a very capable, responsible, knowledgeable and technically competent voice teacher during our teaching observation session. Not only does Samyukta have an accurate grasp of proper singing proficiency, but she also shares this generously with students that she works with. Her modus operandi in her work ethic is both artistic and nurturing to others. As a voice teacher, she also has her sui generis rich Indian classical background to offer her students. In addition, I know Samyukta as a versatile musician, singer and aspiring pianist and she truly validates herself as a relentlessly hardworking individual in pursuing musical excellence in all that she commits herself to. I wholeheartedly recommend Samyukta to all who may wish to benefit from her distinctive blend of talents.
